What the tour includes
The tour begins at Selby Avenue and Dale Street in St. Paul. You’ll get to see the Summit Hill neighborhood in all of its historic charm. There is on-street parking at Selby and Dale and you can even start your day early at the Louisiana Café, a popular breakfast stop in the area. On your way back, try the Mississippi Market, a food co-op with locally grown organic produce.
To take the tour, you’ll want to face east and walk along Selby Avenue towards St. Paul’s Cathedral. You’ll see homes from the 1860s like Victorian homes and brightly painted beauties. You’ll see the Five Two Six Gallery on the right, a free to visit gallery with work from local artists. The Five Two Six is a salon and spa on Selby. Then check out Bon Vie Café for lunch or Cheeky Monkey Deli on the other side.
More stops along the way
The next block will offer a great variety of bars if you’re ready for a drink. You’ll pass by The St. Paul Curling Club headquarters. You can get a beer at the Happy Gnome bar or something sweet at A Piece of Cake on Selby.
From there you’ll pass by The Blair Arcade, the Blair Flats and businesses like Nina’s Coffee Café and Common Good Books. Grab dinner at The W A Frost and Company bar and restaurant across from the Blair Arcade in the former Dacotah Building. Check out Paper Patisserie while you’re there.
From there you can experience the Virginia Street Swedenborgian Church, the Roman Cathedral of St. Paul which is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country and visit the top of the Cathedral Hill where you can see skyscrapers of downtown St. Paul and the Minnesota State Capitol.
