October is an exciting time in Minneapolis, Minnesota for both kids and adults! Whether you like drinking German beer, putting on costumes, eating excellent food or making crafts with the members of your family, you’ll have lots to do in the days leading up to Halloween. Below are some of our favorite kid and adult events throughout the month.

Twin Cities Oktoberfest

When: Oct. 4 – 5

Where: 1265 Snelling Avenue North

Gather at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for Twin Cities Oktoberfest. Enjoy the live music, great food, awesome beer, contests, and more. Oktoberfest is a family friendly event that lasts for two days. Enjoy samples of some of the best German food and beer from the city and surrounding area.

Hindu Festival of Lights

When: Oct. 12

Where: 920 East Lake Street, G-10

The Hindu Festival of Lights is known as a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. At this event, you’ll enjoy fireworks, lighting of the “glow sticks,” crafts, storytelling, shopping, and of course, excellent food. Definitely a kid-friendly event, the Hindu Festival of Lights is a good opportunity for everyone in the family to enjoy themselves.

Zombie Pub Crawl

When: Oct. 12

Where: Downtown Minneapolis

At the Zombie Pub Crawl, the undead rule the street as they crawl or drag themselves from one pub to the next. Enjoy music from three stages, carnival rides, food trucks, brain-eating contests and more. Wear your bloodiest, goriest, most horrifying costume, and bring your friends to this horrifyingly enjoyable Halloween event.

Say Anything Screening with John Cusack

When: Oct. 15

Where: The Ordway Concert Hall

Say Anything was one of the seminal romance movies of the 1980’s, and it’s still enjoyed today. Now you can view a Say Anything  Screening with John Cusack, one of its great stars. You’ll enjoy watching the movie with conversation and questions to follow. You can learn about the making of the movie, his career, and how he got started in the industry. Tickets can be bought online.

Halloween Family Fun Day

When: Oct. 19

Where: Weaver Lake Park, 8401 Dunkirk Lane, Maple Grove

Enjoy yourself on this near-Halloween day in the nearby suburb of Maple Grove at Halloween Family Fun Day. Your kids will love activities and play stations like the Enchanted Castle, Scarecrow Jump, Dizzy Mummy, Witches Ring Toss, Monster Inflatables and more. Are your kids very loud? Let them scream at the top of their lungs in the scream contest! Tricks and treats will make this event fun and exciting for the entire family. All kids and adults are allowed to wear costumes. Dress up and have fun!

Trick-or-Treat Geocaching

When: Oct. 26

Where: 10360 W River Rd, Brooklyn Park

Geocaching can be fun for everyone, but not everybody knows how to do it. Go Trick-or-Treat Geocaching at this regional park in the nearby suburb of Brooklyn Park. This family friendly activity is fun for children and adults. Dress up in costumes as you look for treats and trinkets. Are you experienced in geocaching? Then you’ll have the opportunity to participate in an activity you enjoy while also helping beginners.

Trick-or-Treat Spooktacular

When: Oct. 31

Where: Zanewood Recreation Center, Brooklyn Park

Enjoy Halloween with a variety of activities for children up through ages 14 at the Trick-or-Treat Spooktacular. Inflatables, crafts, games, music and snacks will all be available to children hoping to have a good time. Have your kids dress up in their costumes. This fun event takes place in the evening, and can be paired with trick-or-treating either before or after. Give your kids a safe and silly place to spend time on this spooky holiday!
