This year, the hockey teams will take to Lake Nokomis to face off against one another during the coldest time of the year. Youth Night on the Pond will be hosted at the warming tent by the lake on the 23rd, with hot chocolate and several rinks for hour-long amateur games. After this, the nation’s largest pond hockey celebration gets well and truly underway. Come skate on the Family Skating Rinks, or watch the hockey itself.

If hockey isn’t your thing, the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival offers a different experience out on another frozen lake. This free, open event features kites of all shapes, colors, and sizes being flown over the lake, starting at noon. The Minnesota Kite Society will be showing their skills and can offer their expertise to new and experienced flyers alike. As a family event, you can also participate in ice fishing, snowshoe around the lake, join in on the marshmallow roast, or even catch the entertainment in the warming tent.
