Attraction Spotlight: Minneapolis Institute of Arts
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts contains some of the finest collections of art in the country. Their goal is to inspire wonder through the power of art. You’ll see 40,000 year old artifacts, Asian and African artifacts and works from Monet and Matisse.
Along with visiting the galleries, you can take a tour, take a class, enjoy a concert or visit for a lunch and a coffee. For no charge you can visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts almost every day of the week. Here is what you can enjoy at the museum.
Exhibits
The museum contains permanent exhibits and traveling exhibits. You can enjoy contemporary art, paintings, photography, prints and drawings, sculptures and arts from Africa, Asia and the Americas.
A few of the temporary exhibits include:
- Gown of Cloud & Rainbow: Miao Costumes & Jewelry from China – open until February 22nd, 2015
- Making it New, Again: Collecting History – open until March 1st, 2015
- The Hours of Night and Day: A Rediscovered Cycle of Bronze Reliefs by Giovanni Casini and Pietro Cipriani – open until January 4th, 2015
Public Tours of the museum are free, as well as Family Day, School Groups and general galleries. Special exhibits and classes may require a ticket and reservation.
Hours
The museum is free to visit every day thanks to members and supporters. While the museum is closed on major holidays, it’s open all week long except Mondays. Special exhibits may require a purchased ticket.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays the museum is open from 10am-5pm. On Thursdays, the museum is open from 10am-9pm and on Sundays the museum is open from 11am-5pm. The museum library has special hours.
