Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis is a huge attraction for residents. It is a part of the Chain of Lakes Regional Park and sees around 5 million visitors every year. Located on 2500 Lake Isles Parkway East, Lake of the Isles is the place to go for scenic views and outdoor recreation.

History

The engineered lake was made in the early 20th century. The creators basically used dredged material to create parkland which became a scenic park. It used to be simply a shallow lake and marsh complex.

The constructors have been working since 2001 to improve the water quality of the lake. The major project was set to update damaged recreation areas and improve eroding shorelines. There was a flood back in 1997 and intense windstorm in 1998 that caused damage to the parkland. Fortunately, there are still renovation strategies in place such as path reconstruction, wetland enhancement, and shoreline stabilization.

What can you do here?

People tend to spend a lot of time here that live in the area neighborhoods, but it definitely sees visitors from all over the state. It’s a beautiful location for biking, walking, running, picnics, and canoeing. In the winter, ice skating is available as well. They are also popular for their off-leash dog park at the south area of the park. It’s such a popular location that many wedding ceremonies are held here as it’s such a serene area with beautiful city views.

Visitors of the Lake of the Isles can enjoy a 2.64 mile walking trail, the soccer field, ice rink, hockey rink, a 2.76 mile biking trail, and the water fountain called Peavey Fountain, located at Lake of the Isles Parkway and Kenwood Parkway.
