Affordable Housing Proposed For Cedar Avenue Property South of Downtown Minneapolis

Minneapolis Affordable HousingAccording to reports, Minneapolis could be getting more affordable housing thanks in large part to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, who have recently acquired a small property on Cedar Avenue just south of Interstate 94.

The property, located at 2109 Cedar Avenue South, is currently occupied by the Amble Hardware building, which will be demolished to make way for a new mixed-use complex that will include close to 115 units of affordable housing.

This particular part of Minneapolis is not far from an area that currently has one of Minnesota’s largest populations of American Indians, and it’s also only about a couple hundred feet from the Metro Transit Blue Line light rail, which is perfect for anybody who commutes into downtown.

Being called Mino-bimaadiziwin, which is Ojibwe for “living the good life,” construction for the project is expected to being construction in 2018 should everything go according to plan and the city approves the initial proposal.
