Dakota County real estate offers homebuyers the best of both worlds — homes in both urban and rural settings. The Dakota County real estate market is comprised of 20 cities, 13 townships and three unincorporated communities. The county counts among its natural wonders 20 lakes, so residents are never too far from outdoor recreation. The Dakota County real estate market also offers a variety of home styles, from townhomes and condos to single-family dwellings. If you prefer a brand new home you’ll find lots of new construction in various parts of the county. The county seat is Hastings, a city with more than 22,000 residents. The Vermillion River enters the Mississippi River floodplain just south of Hastings. Two Dakota County cities have been named among the best places to live in the United States by Money Magazine. Apple Valley, in northwestern Dakota County, has made the list three times, and its neighbor, Eagan, ranked in the Top 20.
Dakota County earned 4th place in the 2014 Digital Counties Survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. This annual survey recognizes counties that use technology to improve services and boost efficiencies. This is the 10th time that the county has made the list in the survey’s 12-year history.
