Any discussion of Minnesota golf courses must begin with the one chosen as the best in the state by Golf Digest magazine, Interlachen Country Club. Located in Medina, in Hennepin County, Interlachen is open to members and their guests. This 6,967-yard, par-72 course dates back to 1911 when it started life as a 9-hole golf course. Does it cost to live on Interlachen? You bet -– home prices in the exclusive Rolling Green neighborhood, for instance, start at around $2.9 million.

If you like the idea of a private club but don’t want to pay the high-end home prices in Edina, consider living near the TPC Twin Cities in Anoka County. Located in Blaine, TPC is Minnesota’s only private PGA TOUR-owned property. One of Blaine’s many great golf courses, the par-72, 7,164-yard championship golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer and is host to the 3M Championship. Homes on the TPC are currently priced at around $500,000. While they sit on lots about one-fourth the size of the homes on Interlachen, you can’t beat the view –- and the price.

There may be a prettier site in Minnesota than Bearpath in autumn but I’m not aware of what it might be. The pride of Eden Prairie, in Hennepin County, Bearpath Golf & Country Club is ringed by spectacular hardwood trees that turn vibrant shades of amber, yellow and red in fall, and in full view of the homes that fringe the fairways. This Jack Nicklaus Signature 18-hole championship course is located within a gated community of high-end luxury homes. The highest-priced home on the market right now is listed at $1.9 million and the lowest-priced home -– a golf villa on the third hole -– is being offered at $645,000.
